Best Games 1. Reading. 1995 Play Off Final. Was racking my brains, trying to be different, but this is (to quote Tina Turner) simply the best game of all time. No if's or but's - this is it. The big one. 2-0 down, facing a penalty after 30 mins. Get your train timetables out. 2-2 Full time thanks to big Fabian, Coyle and Branny's penalty save. Then one of the best moves ever finished by the Moose, before Fabian wrote his place in bolton folklore. 'Nuff said. 2. Swindon Town. 1995 Coca Cola Semi. Undoubtedly the best atmosphere I've experienced at Burnden. Again the Super Whites come from behind, McAteer hitting the equaliser, then the Moose with the second. What a goal. I can still see it leave his foot and bend its way round Digby into the Lever End net, where I was sat right behind the goal. Then who else but Super John (a god in a pair of shorts) to finish it off on the final whistle. 3. Was going to go for the OT win, but then I remembered PNE at home back in '93. Promotion hinged on this game. Super John penalty with 10 minutes (maybe more maybe less - I was quite young) to go sewed up promotion for the Whites. Emotional. Worst Games 1. Wanderers 0 United 6 95/96 Black Sunday. The worst game I ever saw. Outclassed (and some) in every department by the Scum. 2. Wanderers 1 Coventry 5 97/98 OK - so we'd signed Deano for 3.5 million, we had a new ground, we'd walked Division One the previous season... but this game spelled out relegation with a capital R. 3. Sheff Wed 5 Wanderers 0 97/98 This game was 0-0 at half time. Fair enough we had a few injuries, but to get battered by a team you kind of hope for points against isn't good by any stretch of the imagination. Best Goals 1. Okocha v West Ham - '03 - I feel good! This goal was genius. Seeing this hit the net meant we were staying up. He beat a couple of men and pinged it in from 25 yards...awesome! 2. Paatelainen v Swindon '95 Coca Cola Cup Semi-Final What a screamer. Watching the video still sends shivers down my spine. 3. Okocha v Villa Carling Cup '04 Semi-Final His second free kick. Breathtaking. Notable absentees - Frandsen v Brum in Div 1, Bergsson v Barnsley '97, Blake v West Brom 9'6/97, McGinlay v Wolves (all of 'em!), Jimmy Phillips v Wolves '95, Gudjohnsen v Wimbledon ('98-99?), Nolan at OT 2001! Signings Djorkaeff - start of the revolution. The first real 'Big Name' to sign, first of many and played a large part in keeping us up. Big Sam's a genius. Bergsson - nine years service, an absolute rock for most of them. One of the best defenders the club has had, and will ever see. Irreplacable? time will tell... Okocha - absolute genius on his day. For all that can be said about him you will never have seen a better player in a white shirt. Fact.
