Following on from an initiative from Burnden Aces (with much kind help from Wanderers Ways) the club has today made an official announcement that 100 free places will be available for Armed Forces personnel to attend all the remaining Premier League games this season, starting with the Hull match on the 29th December.

I would just like to thank the club (and Mr Gartside if he reads this), for the clubs generosity in honouring the bravery of our lads and lasses who risk everything for our safety.

(Perhaps one of the mods could kindly put this as a sticky - thank you)

I thought there was some sort of convention against torture though?

Even if it is free.

Not looking to pick a fight or owt, this a nice gesture by the club, but I cant agree with that statement. Any chance the Emergency Services, Customs Officers etc might be afforded the same treatment ?

They're there to make our lives hell, they don't help at all! Have you ever tried to phone HMRC?

Even if it is free.
It would be a terrible regime that tortured and charged for it.

Go on, I've crossed it into the box...

The world is too ghastly for mere bad taste to stand comparison.

China used to deliver the bullet used to execute criminals to their relatives, and charge them for the cost...

Hobo is smiling now, i just know it...

The selfish ones are those that get in the way of high powered fast cars or bikes then start crying when you run them out the way!! Mr. Green

WELL DONE BWFC good to see this from the club.

What about students, the unemployed, single mothers? They should all be allowed in free.

So should lifeguards, civil servants and the elderly. And foreigners, dog-walkers and TV presenters. All more worthy than soldiers.

They should be shot and the bill for the bullet sent to their familys! Mr. Green

Elderly? yes! the rest should be shot by the soldiers whose places they are nicking!

As pointed out to one gentleman complaining about brawling Paras,

They maybe drunken yobs but they are our drunken yobs and God bless um!

I agree with this tbh, I just don't buy that we'd be under threat without the soldiers Confused

Over one hundred British soldiers died in Afghanistan in 2009 - I think that qualifies in 'risking everything for our safety' - don't you?

How many Custom Officers gave their lives in the course of their duties this year?

Oh and we wouldn’t be under threat would we – how soon some forget! Crazy

probably not the time or place for such a debate - but a picture of a terrorist attack on a UK bus doesn't even begin to disprove Mansell's contention.

he suggested we would not be at such risk if we didn't have the soldiers (and he was NOT dissing soldiers)

I think the argument that we make oursekves a target by our US-led foreign policy stands up quite well. Maybe our history puts us here - maybe it is inevitable - but our view of ourselves as a world power and the world's policeman (whether you think that's right or wrong - I am making no judgement either way) puts us in the firing line - drawns attention to ourselves and makes us a target - and the soldiers are at least a key part of that position we hold.

your picture just confirms we ARE a target - it doesn not begin to answer the question WHY we are...

And they were trained in the art of terrorism and bomb making in Beeston I suppose?
