Anyway, yay, Zat Knight.

Why doesn't Megson ever get called out on that one? Its like people forget who signed him.

Indeed. And let's not forget the bloke who has just handed him a two year deal!

Clearly much worse than splashing out £4m and a three year deal.

I give up. The myth perpetuates.

Ermm well, if he was the wrong signing, and we've had three years of evidence most of which under the current manager then I'd say signing him on a new two year deal is worse.
Either way it won't be as bad as paying 4M for NGog or 2M for Alonso, and handing both long term deals!

Seriously though, I know you actually believe that.

You honestly believe that signing a guy for 4 million to start in the Premier League for 3 years is better than re signing that player as a back up for 2 years while in a LOWER division? Seriously, some people will interpret anything a particular way if it suits their particular dislike for a manager.

If sordell or someone else we get ahold of proves to be a good goalscorer, Ngog will shine. He is brilliant at holding up the ball, can create chances and is pretty pacy when he gets to use it.

If ngogs a centre forward Worthy is a morris dancer.

Anyway fair point there by LK, if we are comparing megson and coyle. but its pointless doing that. coyles in charge now and the signings made so far are pretty good given our situation. We shall see if he can manage them appropriately!!

He doesn't have to be worse than Megson to be shit!

Megson is gone, let it go. Coyle ought to be judged on the job he does, not what his predecessor did. He has clearly failed up to now. He is clearly going to get a shot at next year, so lets all hope he doesn't fail.

I don't get why Zat Knight would be used to pick between either of them. They both clearly rate him.

However, 2 factors, 1 is 'football inflation' increasing the wages of all players, so equivalent players command more.

The other is that Allardyce tapped into a market that barely exists anymore if at all.

Go on, I challenge you to pick one player in our side who's on a massive salary, in comparison to what we used to see as 'massive'.

My guess would be that Petrov and Davies would probably be on the most, and they will be on nowhere near what we offered to Djorkaeff, Okocha, Hierro and Campo.

The wage bill has been slashed by half with the drop into the Championship, so I really don't understand your logic.

That's always going to be a toughie, as we have no notion what individual players were on when Allardyce was here nor do we know now - Sure there's some paper talk n stuff.

What we do know is our wage bill was about double (based on the last published Accounts) than when Allardyce departed.

I'm sure they were cut this year. Will be interesting to see by how much when this year's Accounts are published.

Under Allardyce any big signings were offset by the fact others were making peanuts. IIRC we used to bring over people like Ben Haim and Jaidi on 5k a week.

Currently we seem to be a bit like Arsenal in that we don't pay massive wages to our top players, but even the shite are pretty well paid.

I'd not be that convinced. 'Apparently' Anelka's new contract was 60kpw. 'Apparently' Petrov was on 60kpw (bearing in mind Bosmans tend to get more in wages given there is no transfer fee). I'd put no money on the accuracy of individual reports, but I'd be very surprised if we weren't paying our squad a lot more on average now (or this time last year, as a prem team) than we were under Allardyce. I'd also be surprised if our revenues weren't a lot bigger, despite being worse. It isn't really a like for like comparison.

Buried among the old Megson/Coyle argument and the new BL3/W4E one, this is quite an interesting point: if Ngog gets a partner able to feed off his selfless workrate we might be reet. Bit of a Reeves/Philliskirk thing going on, except I'd hope Ngog has a phone app to locate cow's backsides... being serious, I think he could come good in front of goal with a bit of confidence. It's an interesting subplot to a season full of yer honest actual good old-fashioned uncertainty: likesay, we could quite conceivably finish anywhere between 1st and 24th.

About N'Gog coming good with a bit of confidence: people said the same thing about Ade Akinbiyi.

Problem I have with that is scoring one never seemed to give him a lift last year. His goals were scored with alarming scarcity, but disturbing regularity :D

Yeah, I noticed that too. But we were never not struggling. I know it's a bit crap to say "he'd be good in a winning team" but... ah, we'll see.

I can see why people are optimistic. He 'looks' like a good player. He also never 'looked' like scoring. Hopefully he will come good on that front, but even if he doesn't you'd hope there are enough goals in that team from other areas. Scoring wasn't our problem last year. Petrov, Andrews, Lee, Eagles, Pratters, even Mark Davies could all get towards ten you'd hope. Then there is the great unknown...
