Not from me like....
But yeah I'd just like to see young kids get a proper chance especially the likes of Riley who looked promising last season.
Just think some of Coyles talk of backing youth and bringing in young players and having a 'younger, fitter, hungrier squad' for this season look a bit baloney.
Not that I've anything against Mills or Andrews both solid signings, and the type you need to get out of the championship. But I'll be annoyed if Riley is constantly overlooked for Mears assuming Riley's progress continues of course..
Yeah, I get your point, it's fair enough.
Lonergan's an odd one – not exactly the wise-old-head Walker/Poole/Jussi type who could dispense decades of wisdom to young Boggers, Lainners and Lynchers. All things being equal I wouldn't go for a 28-year-old goalkeeper, but on the other hand he was first-choice goalkeeper for a leading team in this division and could be available for nowt much.
On the youth thing, I'm not sure I'd hang the verdict on Coyle based entirely on Mears v Riley - the stats from their (limited) appearances last season suggest the older man is the better player, although that's kinda to be expected at the moment. I'd rather pick the best bloke for the position, while also having a few other options to hand. I honestly think that this is what Coyle, for all his numerous faults, thinks too.
Besides, the squad is already a lot younger/fitter/hungrier for the loss of a fair few who'd disappeared over the hill. We don't have to have the entire matchday 18 filled with first-time shavers.
