You're just on the wind up now, yes?
Seriously, who are these people? You really think that people exist out there who only go to the Reebok to watch Premiership football and not be bothered about Bolton?
If that were true why would they subject themselves to the pain of a BWFC matchday experience rather than watch it at home on the telly or for free on the internet?

Go and sit in the west upper.....plenty there who barely move when we score. Some fans like football and will watch a premiership club close to them, rather than necessarily being a "fan" of a club per se.

So have you actually spoke to all these people who barely move when we score?

I have seen a couple of Danes once.

I sat in the west upper for one game a few years back as I had a guest over and it was the only place I could get a pair of tickets for Arsenal at home that time. Plenty sat around me didn't even know half our players, clearly not regulars. I chatted to the guy the other side of me, he said that he'd been to the Reebok with his young son a few times but was actually himself a Preston fan from his youth but never went, but his little boy was obviously wanting to see premiership football.

This phenomenon does exist. You only have to look at differences in our gates before and after our last promotion. Some fans are attracted by the premiership.

But it brings about interest from those who aren't even necessarily fans in the true sense.

I think the air-quotes are important when calling it that.

Given the tales I'm hearing this morning from people who are on my course, but doing a separate module which was assessed last night, I think even the air-quotes are an understatement...

Or do you mean playing in a higher league...

Plenty of fans, compared the total attendance?

You'd be surprised at just how many of these folk exist, and 'football tourism' is pretty big business (albeit not quite as much with the recession and whatnot).

From a personal point of view as someone who struggles for Saturday games so generally goes to the Sunday/midweek ones, I'll be going to a ton more games next season than the past couple of years. I'm also someone who goes to watch Bolton and the opposition doesn't really make a jot of difference.

I've got a couple of mates who do this. Both United fans who can't afford to watch them every week, so one has a season ticket at Rovers, the other at Wigan because it's a way of watching cheap Premier League football every week.

For what it's worth I won't be getting a season ticket next season. The main reason is I'm moving further away, and starting a job that will mean I work some weekends and will struggle for midweek games. That said, I'd probably have been more inclined to keep my season ticket if it meant travelling down from Carlisle to see us play Spurs rather than Barnsley.

So: one game, against Arsenal.

Your point may very well be valid, but I'd say your empirical evidence is a touch on the short side.

Stupid iPod changed spelling from university. I want to do sport science which in Bolton is three C's and the only University in N.Ireland that does it is AAB

I had an ST in the West Upper for 5 years. You're talking absolute bollocks. The people up there are as passionate as anyone, they just don't want to be near dickhead corner or its incumbents.

Anyway - the fixtures are out at 09:00 on Monday. I wonder if that'll have an effect on ST sales?!

I got my season ticket before we were relegated as I am not bothered which division we are in, obviously I prefer to see us in the top division and doing well but last season we were not good enough as a squad and we went down.

I am looking forward to the upcoming season yes there are not very attractive fixtures such as Barnsley, Peterborough, et al. But I think there are games to look forward to Burnley, Blackpool, Leeds, etc etc.

Not every game in the PL is attractive fo example who would have enjoyed watching us again Reading, QPR, Norwich, Swansea, there are more but these are not attractive fixtures we have no rivalry with these teams and there would have been less local games in the prem.

Anyway my point is it is not all doom and gloom there are games to look forward too and you never know we may win promotion and be a better club at the end of it.

So let look forward to the upcoming season!!

Agreed. Looking forward to next season more than I have in the premier league for a couple of years. Got a good feeling about the forthcoming campaign.....

Jesus Christ I'm not saying that all fans in the west upper are the same. I'm not even having a go at anyone. Folk have different motivations for going. But I sat there and the number of people I heard who had no clue who half our players were was just amazing.

As has been said above there are indeed people who want to watch top flight football who will go to a local ground without being a hardcore fan.

Anyways seeing as I'm talking such bollocks then I'm looking forwards to the same attendance levels as last season then as clearly being in the premiership is irrelevant to the hardcore and if such casual football fans as I've described at Bolton don't exist then there is no reason for attendances to drop at all.

I've bookmarked this in readiness for the new season.

East lower near the screen isn't as bad as you think.

The ones that are right, right at the end as close to the away fans as you can get yes they're the 15 year old dick heads, but I'd say if you move further along (about seats 40-70) then it's mainly just a group of lads/men that just want a bit of atmosphere and to be able to stand at the match rather than someone telling them to be quiet and sit down.
