Jack White's latest, Blunderbuss.

Arrived today. Bought it off the back of reviews proclaiming it the album of the year so far, an accolade I had already decided was the Black Keys' (until I realised El Camino came out in December) and a couple of youtube listens. Loved the White Stripes, even more so the Raconteurs so high hopes. Will let you know.

Please do. Had no time at all for White Stripes - am utterly in awe of The Raconteurs.

One listen. I really can't make up my mind. It's so eclectic. Some of it very Raconteurs like, some of it more like the quirkier White Stripes stuff. There is definitely something there though, and it'll be getting played a fair bit in the next few days. Some belting songs on, some I'm not sure what to make of yet.

As for his previous lives, White Stripes was him being very weird and her hitting shit like a monkey. Very hit and miss, but the stuff I thought was good I thought was very good.

I saw the Raconteurs play an instore on Oxford Street whilst promoting Broken Boy Soldiers. There were unreal, even in half an hour playing a stripped-down semi-acoustic set without all the electronic toys. Brendon Benson so, so talented. I think they'd had only brought the bare bones needed and when Jack broke a string halfway through a song they carried on that, and the next few whilst a roadie fixed it, improvising and compensating brilliantly. A band I would LOVE to see play a full gig. There was a 45 minute highlights clip of them playing Glastonbury or Reading or somewhere just after Consolers of the Lonely came out, I must have watched in all the way through with iPlayer turned up to 11 (I hope that is deliberate btw) four or five times.

One of the reviews I bought this off said he was also in a band called the Dead Weather I'd never heard of....?

The two singles of Blunderbuss.

I like them both, both very different:

Love Interruption

And Sixteen Saltines

I used to have pretty much all the White Stripes songs on my ipod. Loved 'em all, no songs that I thought were bad. Saw the Raconteurs on telly at some festival and couldn't get my brain around 'em. I'll probably get this new one in five years when it's generally regarded as a classic that you'd have been foolish to miss.

For some reason, I've got all The White Stripes with the exception of Elephant. I think it must have been because my brother had that one. Must remedy this! Will probably get this Jack Black solo album too. The Raconteurs I remember the first single they released, thought it was ok but didn't bother to listen to anything else, think I might have to now!

Consolers of the Lonely really is a terrific album, and as someone that's not a fan of White Stripes at all, I really needed some convincing.

Burial's 2nd album Untrue.

And a run through of Blue Lines before that to wet the whistle.

Consolers of the Lonely is fecking ace. The solo on Switch and the Spur is off the chain.

Verbs, Bruce, and others, Love Interruption is ace. First listen I really liked that, wasn't as keen on Sixteen Saltines. Now, after a few listens can't get the latter out of head. They are both, I think the two extremes of the Raconteurs. Love Interruption the more melodious Brendon Benson-y type, Sixteen Saltines the 'dirtier' Jack White and toys guitary side. Probably the best two songs on Blunderbuss. Chucked it on again at work tonight. There are some really good songs, on the back of which I think it is worth buying. Others that need longer to grow.

Always my first port of call, Pirate. I'm working on it just mainly being a tarted up D, C and G riff but I can't quite get it

No Led Zeppelin either I think! I remember a few years ago a load of sites either shut down or just deleted all their tabs because they were going to get done over the copyrights or something. But UG said bollocks to that and just carried on! If you're really desperate to get an accurate tab for something just get Simon at Bolton Guitar Studio to write it out for you! :D

I'll run you a copy of The Sailor's Revenge and drop it in, Will. Mainly acusto-Irish but you can hear Mark Knopfler's production (and guitaristry) all over it. Bap Kennedy was lead singer of a Belfast band in the 90's called (dreadfully) Energy Orchard who I saw a couple of times and had some minor chart success. These are my two favourite tunes of theirs.
