Shit or bust next term, we're more than capable of going straight back up, although we'll again be the paupers of the league if we did.

Top flight football is everything, but unless you've got a billionaire benefactor, you might as well enjoy a long relegation battle.

I'm almost looking forward to next season now

I'll agree with all that.

All-in-all I'm happy Coyle looks like he'll still be in charge. Him slashing the wage bill is something that NEEDED to happen, and this although deflating, is at least it's a semi-positive that relegation will help that along. I'm hearing good things about the talent in the academy, the likes of Vela, Eaves etc. They'll all get a chance next season no doubt.

We have the opportunity to remove some dead-weight and mercenaries from the team, and for broken confidence in some players to be rebuilt.

One thing that unfortunately needs to happen is that Jussi and his massive wage need to be cleared off the sheet. It's simply bad economics to keep him around as #2 to Bogdan, on his salary, sad though it will be.

I'd like to see the back of:

Jussi (sorry)
Ricardo (sorry again)
Sean Davis
Zat Knight
Robbie Blake
Ivan Klasnic (can't see him putting the effort in for Championship football, as much as I like him)
Robbo/Meathead

Unpack your bags, lad:

Sam Ricketts (won't be exposed the same way in the Championship)
Mad Gretar (can do a job for us)
Petrov (don't think he'll stay, but could really strike terror into Championship defences)

If we need to slash the wage bill we cant keep gretar and ricketts. Ricketts wins on versatility. Could even be centre half next season if we sign a left back.

Defense for me is the worry. Riley - ?????? - Ream - Hopefully Ricketts?

Just hope we can use the savings made on getting rid of Knight, Robinson etc and bring in someone who can lead at the back. Something I think we have missed all season.

Connolly and Bennett I imagine will be asked to step up. Probably get another defender on loan and one permanent signing. I'd like Steinsson to sign on with us if it's a fair contract although would help if either him, Mears or Riley didn't mind going on the left from time to time.

Petrov's too old and presumably expensive. Gretar, while I've nothing against him, is up against Mears, Riley and (hopefully) Ricketts, so giving him an extension is not a priority.

Exactly - although I'm not sure about Ream & Ricketts at centre-back...

Connolly's out of contract, although there'll never be a better time to offer him another year. Don't think any of Mears/Riley/Steinsson can play LB so one has to go, sorry Gretski.

Connolly is too small to be CB IMO. Especially in the championship alongside Ream.

We need a proper blood and guts, commanding, beast of a centre half. John Terry on loan would do.....

What's Gerry Taggart up to these days?

Would rather keep Ricketts than Steinsson, with Riley playing at RB.

Bogdan,

Riley,
*Need a beast/Leader*,
Ream,
Ricketts

CYL
NRC
Holden
Eagles

Sordell
N'Gog

Reserves:

Kevin Davies
Moo (Hopefully)
Mears
Rob Lainton
Mavis,

I don't think this looks a bad side. Can't stress how much we need a leader at the back and with all the people that are out of contract Ricketts is the one for me we have to keep and with the younger player like Vela, Connolly and Eaves we have a few options.

Saving money and could be playing good football when we hopefully come back up. We do have a young side.

You COULD argue that team looks better than the one we've had out most of the year.

If he's staying, OC needs to spend the summer doing a coaching course, learn a few tactics, then persuade all the players we need to stay on and rouse them for a push back to the PL.

I'd be more positive if he hired an experienced No.2 and a good first-team coach.

Me too...but if he wouldnt do it to try and keep us in the prem, he wont do it now i wouldnt have thought.
Shame really because with the same coaching team you can see an immediate drop back even if we do go up!

I'll be honest, I'd rip your hand off if that was the team that was offered.

Absoluetly vital we improve our defence and keep four from NRC, Mavis, Holden, Lee and Eagles. Davies and Sordell would make a nice one-two punch up front as well.

Todd's major failing last time we went down was not addressing this very issue until the loaning of Newsome and Warhurst in the autumn. I remember throwing points galore because our defence was shite, whilst our attack was the best in the league.

Ricketts and A N Other experienced Championship player in defence would make me sleep more soundly.

I don't think Coyle would go for a sound 30 year old to sort it out unfortunately . He is likely to go for young gun. I like the look of that Team I think thats a team we can really expect to see. Mavis might go but with Holden back I wouldn't see that as a great lose as he went missing in many games this season just when we needed someone to put there foot on the game.

Going forward i think we could really do some damage, Sordell looked good and hopefully we can have a proper two up front without one of them dropping deep to help a shocking midfield. Get N'gog playing facing goal rather than than his back and holding it up.

My brother is a Birmingham fan and has really enjoyed the Championship this year. He often comments on some of the football they have played this year and how nice it is to go to games and Win at home!!! WIN AT HOME!!! :oyea:

That's the general gist, but surely he doesn't want kids everywhere? He must see the benefit of experience, considering he's just extended KD's contract and played till he was about 45 himself...
