I drive (and thoroughly recommend) Skoda Fabia. I've got the vRS and it's the dog's bollocks, but you can get one with a little less grunt and they're very economical. They're basically Audi/VWs but you don't pay for the badge (no snob value to fork out for).

Just got shot of my Focus which was a great car. Ran for ever on no tlc whatsoever. They're a lot dearer now so what about a Fiesta? The new ones are bonny looking cars & relatively cheap to run.

Interesting - they clearly make them better than they used to. Many years ago I had a Mondeo that spent longer in Gordon's than it spent on the road and I swore I'd never have another Ford ever, ever, ever again. However, had a Ford Jeep thing (Kuga?) on hire in Denmark a couple of months ago and was very impressed with it.

I've had three Vauxhall Astras, owned one and two that were works cars and upmarket; sports steering wheel and Recaro rally seats etc. Never had so much as a hiccup from any of them. Terrific cars.

ive a focus company car at the mo, its alright. the best thing about it is the space in the back when you fold the seats down. i keep em down pretty much all the time, i like to carry my bike about incase the opportunity for a ride presents itself - or im buying bulky stuff, or running shite to the tip. cant fault it.

dosent drive particularly great, and ive no clue what it does per gallon or any of that bollocks, but i do know it has the turning circle of the USS Enterprise.

im after a pick up next, fancy one of them VW Amarok's!?

Ive just got rid of my Mazda 3 by sending it back to the finance company. It's got 120k miles on it and is worth about 1200 quid. I owe about 3 and a half grand on it, but under the terms of any HP deal, you are entitled to hand the car back once you've paid half. Needless to say, they're not happy about me reading the small print :D

In the spirit of no longer having any street cred, nor needing any, I've bought an old Corsa to run round in, saving on finance, insurance, road tax and Im hoping, fuel to the tune of about 150 quid a month.

Result.

Also had 3 Astra's and never had a problem either! had the 1.4 .. 1.8 and 1.9 cdti .. the diesel was my personal favorite and fantastic on fuel. Only changed to a 1.8 5 door due to recent first born.

The VXR is great fun to drive also but not so fun on fuel

My first ever car was a Vauxhall Astra. A31 LVR. Loved it!

Ah, now there's a thread all on it's own Bruce. I spent 2 years driving round in my mum's Allegro in BL Beige before buying my first car, a Talbot Sunbeam. I always wanted the Lotus version but never did get there :(

an acquaintance of mine bought a brand new Jaguar Estate car 5 years ago for the princely sum of £27,000.

he went to the garage where he bought it yesterday to ask what they'd give him for it if he wanted to sell it...

£500

that's SOME depreciation!!

Serves him right for being such a muppet that he would spend that much on a car in the first place! ;)

I'm ashamed to say I once had a Morris Marina. Red, with a tan vynyl roof. Not only did it look the worst car ever, it really was.

Ah, good old hearing aid beige - I had an Escort in similar :D

Passed my test in an 1100 Dolomite. Always wanted a Dolomite Sprint, but like you, never did get there :(
