So after all that work to get to 5k comfortably, I have now been out of action for 3 weeks.

Still have a golf ball sized lump on my left ankle.

Feckin' miserable.

I've been out of action longer - 5 weeks? - and feeling all that gain draining away!! back to the docs next week as the knee is still not OK... got acute shooting pains through it for 4 and a half hours driving up to M'bro on sunday - not with any weight on it - just by having my foot on the accelerator...

Did about 3 miles yesterday for the first time in ages. Found it unbelievably hard. Seriously depressing. :(

My sympathies dear cassocked one.

Perhaps we should look for another hobby to keep us happy.

Drinking and womanising maybe?

Embarrassed and angry.

Going to take me ages to get up the ESL on Saturday.

No laughing.

God damn, didn't y'all think of trying a sport other than running? It's clearly doing none of you any good. Knees, ankles, backs – it messes you up.

Off for a two-hour jaunt, aiming towards Enfield and up to Epping Forest. First long run in ages! Excited and nervous.

Can't believe I'm actually running a marathon this month :'(

No. The Piriformis has receded to be replaced by something else. I've now been in almost continuous pain for the best part of three months now but I'm not going to let it stop me from doing the marathon.

How do you feel after the 18 miles?

Pretty good thanks!

The pain is bearable and not getting any worse with the increased mileage. If I take it easy and maintain today's pace I'll get through the race in two weeks.

Good news the pain isn't getting worse. Are you planning a rest after the marathon?

A week after I am doing a triathlon. Then I can rest.
