I sincerely hope you're not including "The Quiet Man" in that list.

I'm generally with you on this, but with one exception. The Longest Day. But I count that as a film with John Wayne in it, rather than a John Wayne film.

He's not a bellend! - its a great film with Colin Firth in, based on the 1989 season.

The book is better, but that's pretty much always the case.

Seen it, Grunty. Any film that plays Stiff Little Fingers in it will do for me ;)

My media A-level coursework* involved analysing Bridget Jones' Diary, Erin Brockovich and Dirty Dancing in the context of representations of women in film.

I'll be honest I went into it with a feeling of dread, but having sat through repeated viewings of them all I actually thought tha...

As best I can remember the last film I watched in a cinema was 'Days of Thunder' "starring" a bloke called Tom Cruise. It was like watching an Elvis Presley flick, without the music. To this day I believe that experience is the reason that today I need hearing aids to help overcome a lack of sensitivity to certain frequencies of sound. If it hadn't been a freebie put on by a company for which I was an agent the ushers would have seen my back end within about ten minutes of the film's beginning. Perhaps it was the local sound engineer, I don't know, but it was LOUD! Perhaps it was designed to take the viewers minds off the non-existent plot?

Somewhere in my rather small collection of DVDs I have 'How the West Was Won'. Memory tells me that it was a decent sort of 'Western'. I might drag it out and watch it this afternoon given that it's yet another wet and gloomy day. For the record: I really enjoyed 'Dances with Wolves'; superb photography, a lovely sound track and a slow and well developed plot (although the battle at the ford did jar a bit).

Others have commented upon the James Bond series of films. Please remember that these were set in the times when they were produced. All of them were pure escapism and nothing more. Should there have been some sort of moral message in them (apart from the fact that the white hat always won) I haven't found it. :P

A work of brilliance in my opinion. flawed but brilliant.the definitive Vietnam war film hasn,t been made yet but the first hour is possibly my favourite hour of mainstream cinema ever
