Don't suppose anybody remembers this? The Ariel Leader was the first ever British panelled-in motorbike. Bloke I worked with bought one (£209 new) and it was a real let-down after the other Ariel bikes: Arrow, Hunter, Red Hunter etc. Very tinny sounding and the model didn't last all that long.

that's a new on on me! was it the panels vibrating that made it sound tinny? what were the panels made of? on the plus side - ample luggage space!

Think they were made of light metal and maybe it was that that made the sound. Can't remember what engine they had but it wasn't a massive one. Just didn't sound like a motorbike at all.

I don't think he means they were rubbish... but on today's roads and in today's road-driving conditions - a whole lot more dangerous than a modern bike!

I said in their time Tango they were good put them against todays bikes and they are now't but nostalgic scrap. Nostalga You see thats the problem, I like to think my old bikes were good but put the GT750 kettle I once had against a modern 600 comfort, handling, speed and safety ie the ability to stop and they might as well be from mars and thats not going near the reliabilty issues. The old Suzuki was like a barrel of lard compared to the ZX600r old Brit bikes I've swung a leg over are like tractors.
Would I swap an E-Type Jag for the latest Aston Martin? would the RAF fly Spitfires instead of the Typhoons? not a cat in hells chance, same with bikes.
