Ward converted his quite brilliantly

Watching tonight was definately impressed by him, played very well. Great goal, nice penalty too.
Was a really exciting game too.

i know the level of competition isn't quite the same but he has to be a better option than petrov, seem's to track back quite decently. i really rate the lad but he's quite big for a winger aint he? maybe the camera adds a few pounds but he looked quite bulky at rochdale pre-season, not far just..yehh..

First time I've seen Ward play properly, I have to say I was really impressed.

I'm still unconvinced by Ward. Clearly a good striker of the ball and he's got a nice touch. But I think he lacks pace to play on the left in the premiership. He's basically a striker playing out wide so he's not in the up and down wide midfielder mode of a Matt Taylor, though he clearly works hard. But considering he's at that level, he looked good but not outstanding. And if he was likely to make an impact in the premiership you'd expect him to shine out like a beacon at league one level, and for me he just didn't!

He's got a fat head too, and I don't remember many top players of late who have a fat head.

He's 20, which makes him of comparative age to a number of lads who played for the reserves the other day against United (other than people like Vela who's about 8 ). He's miles further along than any of them.

He's been out on loan twice to League One in two seasons, he's scored important goals, become a fans favourite and reached the play-off final. He's done all that can be asked of him. The idea that he should be standing out like Messi, or even that he should be expected to walk into our first team at this stage, is bollocks.

We've played League 1 sides (and below) numerous times in recent years, and not once have our expensive Premier League players strolled 'round them like they're playing Fifa on 'Easy'. It's a good quality league, as evidenced by the fact last season's Champions will be playing Premier League football next season (the other two finished 7th and 9th).

He does need to move up now though, whether it be on loan in the Championship or on our bench.

We'll see Tom. I suspect these discussions will still be taking place in a years time.

If he's not ready at 20 after three loan spells, two play off campaigns, for our squad then I'd question at what point he will be?

Mark Davies was playing on loan to Leicester in League One at the age of 20 when we bought him, and he went straight into our first team, and was man of the match on his debut. The gulf isn't all that great.

And no, not in on the first match of the season unless he earns it in pre-season.

General opinions.

Not quite sure what more BWFCi wants. He was outstanding at business end for Swindon last year, and has been for Huddersfield this. A large part of the difference between the talented players at League 1, and the talented players at Prem level is mentality and attitude. Both clubs' fans have praised his commitment, level headedness and work rate, and he has played really well and scored goals in vital games at Swindon and Huddersfield. Scored penalties for both in Play Off semis too. It's far too early to tell if he will make it, and to write him off now is bonkers. My gut reaction is he will, up front, not out wide, but who knows.

Also, apparently Marcos Alonso was 'one for the future' despite looking like absolute dogshit whenever he got on the pitch, but Ward, one year his senior, needs to be Messi mkII by now?

According to Wiki, Ward is actually the younger, but I'm pretty sure the wiki is wrong, as last year with Swindon he said he was 19 whilst his wiki said 18, and someone on here who knew him confirmed he was 19. Ward, then, is two weeks older that Alonso. Potential legal trouble aside, Alonso sat set for benefit of the doubt, one for the future stuff. Which was fair enough, as it is for Ward.
