I have a friend who says that leaving a game early is a black mark on your soul. Mind, in Seattle there's a good selection of bars within walking distance so if traffic is bad you can just go grab a beer and wait for it to die down. Can't remember if that's true of the Reebok.

If folk leave early it's their business no one else's, the club don't care if they've got their buck!
Not been much to cheer at the end of a game till recently has there?

I don't really get why people do it. Why bother going if you miss the last potentially critical 10 minutes?

You don't go to a concert and leave before the encore. You don't watch a film but leave with 15 minutes left.

I don't get why people do it at footy.

As has been said if you're 3-0 down and its raining and you've got a 4 hour journey ahead of you, then I can understand it.

But at 0-0 or 1-0 can't get HOW people can leave early!

Unless you have somewhere to be. That's the only reason I leave early occasionally.

In the olden days when we would sometimes have a home game on Saturday and then on Tuesday my Dad would make me stay behind after the Saturday game and hide under seats so I could get in for free on Tuesday. That's definately not leaving early - but it's a long wait.

if it was up to me I would keep the doors locked until the final whistle. If you do choose to leave early, they scan your season ticket and next year you have to pay £10 extra for every game you left early the previous season.

I remember going to the cinema with my dad - and never arriving on time - so - watching the final 2/3 of the film and then staying in for the next screening and watching the first 1/3rd.....

I seem to remember we did this with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (or however many leagues it was!) - twice...

Yeah, I remember my dad telling me that used to be the done thing with the cinema. You'd just turn up whenever sit down and then watch through to the point you arrived... Baffling.

As for leaving early, I did it once at a cricket game in April. It was a one day game, we were getting thumped, obviously going to lose but because we were batting second we were grinding out the match to try and boost our net run rate. It was freezing and as such, I left.

Never left a football game early though and never would, unless it was a matter of life and death. Why pay to go if you're not going to get your money's worth?

So, that'd be 40,000 leagues under the sea then ... but maybe only 2/3rds of that ?!?!

Yep, my dad took me a few times & we did that & you had to try & spot whereabouts you'd come in. Odd world back then ... I blame rationing & the unions.

Couple of further points about leaving early

In terms of pound-per-minute, it's much more expensive to leave a game early than a film or a gig (unless it's a preposterously expensive reunion legacy tour thing)

And by near the end of most films, and certainly a gig, you know what's going to happen. If a game's level or only one goal either way, owt could happen

I left the Usual Suspects and Sixth Sense early. Didn't understand the fuss about them, to be honest.
