Yes - love it. Where are you staying? I'll try and have a think whether I can remember anything that isn't obvious.

... and the Uffizi, of course (although it was closed due to flooding last time I was there).

We visited Florence whilst on a cruise and fell in love with the City (Tuscany is such a beautiful region too). We had about 4 hours to soak up the sights so we were limited in what we could see but a must is the The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo) and the leather markets though be prepared they're not cheap. You'll have a fabulous time Bish, enjoy!

I've been 3 times I think. To be honest, I can't really remember what we did there though apart from visiting nearby family. They have people who draw portraits, you could get one of those done.

In that case, maybe a side trip to Lucca wouldn't be recommended. I would recommend taking one of the days to just wander around, the architecture and the churches are such that if you're into that sort of thing you will find hundreds of photo friendly vistas.

May as well book the Accademia (statue of David) and the Medici Chapel too. But then I am a Michelangelo fan.

It's not a separate separate thing but it's not in the Uffizi either.

In that case, the things to avoid are:
youths on scooters (male or female, they can often spell trouble).
Carabinieri, in my experience they delight in Inglisi torment.
Back street cafes - the buns are yuck, the coffee costs a fortune. Stick to bars and beer (/wine).
Walks alongside the river - it quite often smells.

It can be done if the river is fast flowing or in the late autumn, but equally I've had some 'orrible miasmas come off it. And watch out for the mossies as well. Little biting buzzing barstewards.

Dan will have. He's the Wokingham Alan Whicker. ;)

The mildly strenuous walk up to the Piazzale Michelangelo is worth it for the view of the city.

You will probably be surprised by the number of Americans in the city - both students and tourists. Try not to let it spoil things.

Then of course there is the Museo Bargello, which has a sculpture collection that is only bettered by the Louvre.
