had the same watch ever since I got engaged about 26yrs ago.. not an expensive one...

well - I say "same" watch... it's a bit like trigger's broom! (strap replaced many times - movement replaced twice - glass replaced at least once - winder replaced more than once!!) the hands and the face are original...

I have an allergy to nickel, so, can only use ridiculously expensive watch-straps :(

Never truly understood allergies till I tried to darken my beard a few years back with that
"Just for Men" stuff, and finished up with a face like a filled hotwater bottle. Now I do.

Aha. I'm left handed. So I win this one. We do die, on average, nine fecking years younger though, so left handed swings and Ned Flanders roundabouts.

Must say, and I never thought I'd type this (!), Caps has good taste. Citizen Eco? Check. That Seiko being nice and the Omega rank? Check.

Now then, aftershave? Never really into it, just wore the girlfriend bought Davidoff. Recently mate got a load of samples as 'gifts' when we went on his birthday. That Tom Ford shit is the bomb! Had orignal eau de toilette, and two eau de parfums. Grey Vetiver. Get in.

I'm no horologist but I do like watches, particularly the mechanical ones. However, like Bruce Rioja, I wear a watch rarely and even then it's just to advise me of the time. Oh I've owned many a watch over the years, some of which had the most wonderful array of functions, but who really needs a watch with an inbuilt timer that records to 0.001 of a standard second? It takes much longer than that just to press the stop button! A late friend of mine who was blind had a talking watch - now that's a practical innovation.

My watches are replaced only when they are broken. From memory I own two wrist(let) watches and one fob watch. One of the wristwatches requires a new battery, and has done so for a few years, whilst the other is a Waltham which was gifted to me on my eighteenth birthday by my parents. The band and crystal of the latter have had to be replaced from time to time but it still works just as faithfully as it did when it was new back in 1962. The fob watch, also a Waltham (c.1903), does need a service as it adopted a habit of stopping and now refuses to work. I'm guessing it needs a grease and oil change. If the cost of bringing back to life my wife's carriage clock is any indication then that will be an expensive exercise, so it'll have to wait awhile.

That's really odd. Most people seem to wear them on their wrists.

Oh, and FWIW I still wear mine on the right. That's the way to spot me at the Reebok in future.

If it is it'll have ticked over to 19 now.

I wear my watch on the right wrist - or would if I could be bothered to find where I left it.

I always think that one of the biggest wastes of money in life is buying a watch that is between £200-£1.5k.

What's the point?

I like watches, but until I can get a proper one, I really wouldn't appreciate one around the £500-£700 mark.

Don't like that Seiko one at all, incidentally.

I didn't used to like forcing a bit of metal next to your skin all day, not sure about allergy but it was a bit odd.

I like this one with a non-metallic band, couldn't wear it though.

For the gadget bods with £500 to spend, there you go. Radio controlled and powered by light:

Wife once bought me a water-resistant job that had to go back to Japan for five weeks because they were the only ones who could guarantee the seal when changing the battery. Kid you not. Second time it needed a battery I thought, fxck it, and had it done locally. It's still rusting away in a dawer somewhere .
