A mate of one of my brothers has restored a 3.0 Ltr Capri. When I bumped into him at a do he offered to take me for a spin. Hmmm, three litre engine, drum brakes, tyres the width of my hand? Errrr thanks, but no thanks. ;)

Since my driving days are now done I can safely say this was the finest car I ever have (or will have) owned. Humber Imperial, three litre engine (automatic) , individual Armstrong suspension stabilisers, fifty yards to the gallon and a dream to drive. Felt like king of the world behind the wheel. Ah, those days... :D

Since 2003 I've been driving my Chrysler Intrepid which with a 3.5 litre engine is also a gas guzzler. It's been to the Pacific four times and to the Atlantic rather. Great on the highway (10 litres per 100 kms, but 50% more in the city). It's now done 140,000 kms and still goes really well, though some body rust. Here it is waiting for some road repairs in BC with my son asleep.

When I was in the US the other week, I'd asked for something "Quite big" forgetting that their's and our's differ somewhat. Am glad that the insurance waiver was taken out as I returned it with one or two........... misjudgements (and a cracked windscreen)

Wow! Thats a beast! On a holiday in the states the guy offered us the usual upgrades when we went to pick the car up and I thought an SUV sounded good. It was something similar to that and it was a very nervous first drive to the hotel I can tell you!

You should have got a Ford not a Chevrolet - Ford has automatic parking, and proximity warnings! :D Of course this might not have helped the windshield if hit by a rock.

First wife's brother was a car dealer. I had a Volvo estate and his mate wanted one. He offered me a Volvo sports car in exchange but I didn't fancy it. Very Simon Templar. One day he rolled up in the Humber and that was that, instant love affair.

Luckiest escape of my life in it though. The bonnet was hinged at the front on that model and I was driving up the M6 in the middle lane when it suddenly shot up in front of me (mustn't have closed it properly?) Couldn't see f-all in front of me because it was massive and I just banged the indicator on and shot across the inside lane onto the hard shoulder. Luckily, I hit nothing and nothing hit me. Don't know how, but I sure didn't stop shaking for a fair old while, believe me. :(
