nahh... I'll squander all of that and throw myself on the mercy of the state!! 8)

(plus - the difference between my salary and £40,000 is a whole lot bigger than mortgage/rent payments would represent!)

£40,000 is about 30% higher than the national average wage.

It's all relative though - the nearest supermarket to where I live is the most expensive sainsburys in the entirety of the UK...

True. Though plenty with your salary and lower will be paying rent and/or mortgage for life so its not all bad.

I didn't say it was!! I was merely saying that £40,000 is a lot for one person to earn!! I am more than happy with my lot!

It's not really, if you're the only one working..

It does sound like a lot but since i now only work 3 afternoons a week and thus don't earn as much as i used to we have had to tighten our belts big time - and thats fine. I'd far rather have the time with the twins then to be able to afford exotic foreign holidays etc. Not complaining, just grateful for child benefit. It helps a bit.

However with twins and the cost of childcare it probably wouldn't add any more to our disposable income if i went out to work full time and put them in nursery - even if i wanted to.

I know what you mean, but it isn't actually that much to earn really, if you're paying a mortgage and supporting a family. All the stuff that goes with mortgages, such as life assurance, ppi, illness protection, buildings and contents etc. Soon mounts up. Its all relative.

If that is your single wage, well its not exactly comfortable necessarily......

:D Council run music group. Kids and parents in a circle, sing lots of nursery rhymes, 'play' musical instruments and afterwards adults have a cup of tea, biscuit and chat whilst babies explore the treasure baskets or try and pull the fire extingulshers off the wall (my son!) Bargain morning out for the cost of a quid! Tis a thrilling life i lead! ;)

£228 better off apparently. That'll make up for the decades of slave labour I've been subjected to, I don't think.
Thinking of emigrating to Greece to wallow in a depressive state.
