My problem with Apple is the sheer hypocritical cynicism behind their market plan.

Good, yes .... superb marketing, yes. Job et-al have been fantastic buinessmen, but if you don't join in they squash the life out of you. Utter monopolistic abuse in their attempt for World domination.

So, their Apps, their MP4 (4, not 3 .... therefore not easily transferable) music system, their connectivity are all unique to Apple products. Try finding a converter .... no chucking-fance. Transfer an i-tune 5 times and then you can't do so any more, you're tune is blocked. Go into any high street tech store and music systems, radio's etc., etc almost all have i-phone/i-player connection points ... useless if that's not what you have.

No-one else can get a look in.

Their dominance is rapidly confirmed by legal action. None of this would be a problem had they not squealed like stuck pigs when microsoft appeared to be doing the very same to them. Now they are at it again with HTC & Samsung.

Their products are rarely the actual best ..... just the best marketed , the most (forced) compatibity and certainly the most all pervasive.

Nonetheless Mr Jobs did great work and most certainly changed the World.

Let's be honest here Bobo, Microsoft are hardly angels when it comes to trying to make stuff that works with nowt else...and squealed about it for years when people said 'that's not good'. All Apple did was apply the same model to different markets. Microsoft are evil.

No arguement from me ... I just see them both the same. Except one seems to be near sanctified while the other vilified.

if one has to attach the word "evil" to either - then I am with Bobo that it should be both....

microsoft = blatant evil
Apple = smug evil

I'm not sure either of them are evil. They're just y'know trying to protect their business interests and deliver profits to maximise their stock value.

Jobs and Gates are just examples of why you should never give spotty, geeky unpopular kids with zero success with women so much money (and therefore power) because they're clueless what to do with it. I say that as a genuine admirer of both men.

And you can include that round rimmed four eyed fella at google and that curly haired virgin at facebook too.

I wouldn't know either, if they came up to me in the street and slapped me with a massive sign saying "Hi, I'm an internet bazillionaire"

Microsoft are the devil, I tell you... :-)

When the day of judgement comes, people with Microsoft tech will be pushing brimstone around for eternity.

If it did it would be an i-corkscew for pulling specially shaped i-corks that no other corkscew could manage.

There is a difference IMO between Apple and Microsoft.

Apple deliberately, make systems and standalone products to use for that purpose and that alone. They don't say that your iPad should be able to interface with a whole load of other tech, or that iTunes is designed for anything other than downloading songs from in a certain format (I hate iTunes but there you go....). iTunes is easy to use for a basic user. Couldn't be easier. Stores the music so it can be found, played etc. I'm not sure they ever wanted or said that it would be easy to take stuff from iTunes and play it elsewhere, and the same in reverse!

Microsoft lay claim to a whole lot of compatibility and interoperability that often works only in the perfect case. I'm no technical expert, W4E can say if I'm off the mark.

Add in that networks fall over themselves trying to sell the thing and its no wonder they're the 2nd biggest firm in the world.
