want me to send you some of my anti-inflammatories??

:D Dunno what i have done to it. Is the inside of my right knee. Had problems before doing too much/incorrect technique breast stroke swimming but stopped and its been fine for years. All of a sudden today when getting up from being on the grass with the kids it suddenly really hurt again. Didn't twist ot or anything, is ok if i keep it still but bending and flexing it (ie walking!) it really hurts! Hoping its just one of those things and will be better by tomorrow.

How are all your aches and pains? Do the drugs work?!

ahhh - thought you'd tempt me into some gratuitous breast-stroke innuendo did you??? well - you know I am strong enough to resist that!!

yeah - the drugs work to ease the pain - but they wear off - and the pain is still there un-sorted. will go back to docs in a few days when course is ended - and maybe he'll take the next step... i reckon anti-inflammatories are the catch-all first automatic step for the GP to take...

PS - do you want me to come down and give you some breast-stroke tuition again?

Just started jogging again. It hurts. I was thinking of getting a pair of Asics running shoes – are they any good? There's a shiny, high-tech Asics store here in Amsterdam; they have fancy machines that assess your footfall, etc., in order to find you the best fitting shoes. It's probably a load of marketing bollocks, but I have to admit I was seduced.

that is the right advice - and it is at least possible that my knee injury is due to me not taking it!!

Get your gait assessed for free. Listen to the fancypants salesman's advice on what type of shoe fits you. Make some excuse to leave then get online and order said shoes for about 20 - 30% less.

By the way, how did it go at the Doctor's Sponge?

I have never ever gotten into Asics as a brand. I think it's because before I heard anyone say it I had no idea how it was supposed to be pronounced. That funny little thing before the asics confused the hell out of me - I'd look at it and wonder "should it be Dasics, or Oasics, or even a weird version of Basics" - never occurred to me it would be squiggle Asics. When I learnt the truth, it annoyed me, and so on principle I never buy anything squiggle-asic.

The name of the company, "ASICS", is an acronym of the Latin phrase anima sana in corpore sano, which translates to "Healthy Soul in a Healthy Body"

I quite like their stuff and have run in a Neutral Gel Cumulus shoe for the last 5 years.

Best piece of advice I received prior to starting out was get proper shoes. Have these Asics gel things (as well as my Hermes Power Boots) which are padded in the arches (because I'm a flat-footed Herbert).

Asics running shoes, Footjoy Golf shoes & Lotto calf leather football boots all = money very well spent indeed!

Thanks to Little Green Man I'm now technically equipped, so apropos of GGs piccy on p74(? iIrc) here is a pic of my running companion.
This was on Gairloch beach. At this point she'd rounded up a whole bunch of runners (well two of them, jogging) going in the opposite direction and was giving them the encouragement to run in the 'correct' direction. (I mean, would you gainsay her?)

I think the whole site wobbled there for a sec as it tried to upload 50 gigaterabytes of image. The entire continent of North America briefly browned-out as billions upon billions of electronvolts surged from imageshack.USA towards The-Wanderer.co.uk
