After being caught doing 86 in a 70 zone on the M40 I was compelled to complete a SAC or alternatively take a fine and 3pts, for me there was no option......the SAC it was.

I booked my course for yesterday afternoon and to be honest I found he course very informative but whether it changes my longterm driving behaviour remains to be seen

Have you been caught?

From time to time. I have never lost points though. My transgressions were either before the points system or in a different jurisdiction. We are allowed 20 kmp over the limit in most areas and these days cruise control stops me getting caught.

No, Salford, I have but one blot on my escutcheon over the 40-odd years that I've been driving. That doesn't mean that I haven't done silly things, just that I haven't been caught.

One of those advanced driving courses does appeal though, but the cost is a bit beyond my budget.

There but for the grace go many of us. No, I have never been caught but I do pay attention to 20's, 30's, 40's and roadworks on motorways. Its rare that I find myself going over the limit in those zones. I did, however, pick up my first ever parking ticket just last week. Found a completely unmarked bay and didn't see the resident only sign 25m away.

I did one 6 years ago.

I'm not sure I would this time around, as you now have to declare them to Insurance companies. So they bring no benefit.

And FiO, the fee you pay is the same price as the course. Its one or the other.

Been caught a few times, but before the days when you got a pick.

Admiral enforce that, but I don't know of any others that do yet.

I did one in 2009. Did me the world of good, genuinely try and stick to the limit all the time now.

Yes, I got caught last year and took the SAC to avoid getting any points. As a result, I still have a clean license.

I found the course quite good. I was absolutely amazed by the comments from others on the course. Listening to their stupid comments about what they'd done and what they believed to be correct answers to what were pretty simple questions, it's amazing there aren't more accidents on the roads.

In Scotland, I was 1 mile per hour over the limit where you get offered an SAC. 1mph. tw*ts. I'm constantly on the verge of 12 points, and all to do with speeding. Strangely enough I've never been in an accident (apart from one not my fault) and yet the pillock next door has managed to slaughter 6 people in three separate accidents, all within the speed limit, and not a single point on his fxckin licence, never mind convictions for manslaughter. It's completely arse over tit.

The courses are a cynical money making exercise for the local constabulary as far as I'm concerned, but I'd take one in a heartbeat to keep my clean, shiny licence. I've been through two static cameras that have flashed me in years gone by but presumably there's been no film in the camera because I heard nothing afterwards. The relief when day 14 arrived and the postman had been was tangible on both occasions.

I can't believe I've managed a clean licence for 34 years - but tis so... Good fortune...

And these days obey speed limits assiduously - even at night on Moss Bank Way where the sudden drop to 30 is a surprise... And I know I piss off the drivers behind as they queue to overtake at the lights...

This post is so boring I can hardly bear to post it... But, hey, so are all above...

I sometimes go a bit quick on the bike BUT NEVER in a built up area or along roads with multiple junctions for joining traffic. If I don't know a road I don't ride fast.

I did one a few years ago at Bolton Arena.. It was a long 4 hours to be honest but had to be done.

I remember the surprise in the room as the gap between lamp posts indicating a certain speed limit was revealed to be a myth.

Did one a couple of months ago and was quite taken aback by that, missen.

It was always said where there was no speed limit sign that if lampposts are x amount of distance apart, it was a 30mph zone.
Hence the reason why we all carried a tape measure in the boot so we could check.

Its the length and distance of the white lines in the middle of the road that dictate the hazardousness of a particular stretch of road. And the lamposts thing is fact become myth - generally (outside of the motorway) an evenly-spaced lamposted area will be a 30. Neither have any legal definition, they are both advanced driving skills that are taught.

I thought it was usually said that if in doubt and there are no speed limit signs to say otherwise - then if there are lamposts (never mind the spacing) - then assume it is a built up area and therefore 30MPH.
