For my collection, I'd start with -
The death of Marat, David
Liberty leading the people, Delacroix
The Annunciation, Angelico
Murder of innocents, Brueghel
The Arnolfini marriage, Van Eyck
The Fighting Temeraire, Turner
Guitar, Ben Nicholson
plus many others which I can't think of, off the top of my head.

Any old bit of Barbara Hepworth
A piece of Giacometti,
And the bike on which Eddy Merckx broke the hour record.

Grayson Perry (Turner Prize-winning transvestite potter) has a programme tomorrow on channel 4 called "All in the Best Possible Taste" - which asks whether "taste" and "class" are connected - and if so, how...

OK - just got round to watching this - fantastic!!! part one of a series - working class art and taste..

he goes to sun'land..

a great warm, unpatronising and non-sentimentalist window on working class taste.. and he produces some FABULOUS tapestries the like of which you will never have seen!!

big thebish recommend... you can get it on 4-OD I'd imagine.. I have the second in the series recorded - it was on yesterday - Middle Class taste and art...

Tonight the annual Degree Show of our Art & Design students opens. First time in years I've not been at the opening, but will catch up tomorrow.

it's open to the public - will post details tomorrow.

it always has some truly fab work.

No. Tried to use your link but it kept telling me I need to download Flash Player, which I don't want to do. I typed the artist in Google Images and brought up his content and articles on him there. Paedophylic and pornographic vases not my taste although, as I said, his ceramics are very beautiful. Sunderland was always a centre of quality lustreware.

flash player is what plays the videos in your browser - it's perfectly safe.

the program is not about ceramics or lustreware or vases.

1. Yes, I do know that. I'm low on memory and my pc is getting on a bit.

you don't need any extra memory to download Flash Player - and it shouldn't make a difference if your pc is getting on a bit..

Indeed it's criminal that the sunflower, drawn for me by Our Millie in the coloured pencils that I bought her, hangs from my fridge door, held there by a magnetic bottle opener. I think I'd better check out my insurance situation.
