If we sign Hamann then surely it signals the end of Campo's stint at the Reebok. This is a purely hypothetical situation of course but if it is the case would you prefer Hamann over Campo?

My personal opinion is that a midfield of Hamann, Nolan and Speed for next season doesn't excite. Ivan was the only joy to watch during the latter part of last season. His range of passing is absolutely incredible coupled with his impeccable positional sense and what about his wild gesticulations? A genuine character amongst our ranks as well as being a very good player.

Hamann is a quality player but not the most exciting. There is no doubt he is industrious in the middle of the park but can you imagine the dour football that will be turfed up with a midfield trio of Speed, Nolan and Hamann. I shudder to think.

With the announcement on ITV by Clive Tyldesley that Nakata is leaving, we'll be lacking serious creativity in the centre of the park. Campo could be the saviour. Who would you rather have if you were only allowed one of Campo or Hamann?

I've gone for Hamann as I believe that the holding role is a more defensive than attacking role and hence needs a stronger defender than Campo. We do however then need to also play a more creative midfielder to compensate for Campo's ball distribution techniques, not that Hamann's is that bad.

After seeing him yesterday I hope that Nakata returns to Bolton, he's got a lot of class and only needs a longer spell of first team football to get fully up to speed in the Premiership..

Why can't we have both? They're both old and could job share with Speed.
Haven't seen a lot of Hamann, who is quicker?
If I had to choose - I'd be the manager wouldn' t I and we'd have Didier Zokora. Okay.Campo cause I like his hair.

Hamann every time. Campo loses the ball too much for me, but i can't see why we could sign both? Campo is versitile and gives another more creative option for the midfield role.

we couldnt have both
would be pretty pointless in having to 32 year old midfielders when hes tryin to lower the age of the squad
he still needs to replace jayjay yet though wonder who hes got up his sleeve

Hamman, just like LeeRoyBrown said, he keeps the ball a lot more than Campo.

fisrtly, both. I think Hamman would be more likely to be occupying Speed's place given the game they play.

second, who listens to a word Clive Tyldesley says????

Its campo for me, for pure entertainment, I also think hes better than Hamman in that position as he's a defender first and foremost (albeit a not very good one) therefore his ball winning skills are better, Hamman is about breaking down play by interception and playing a 5 yard Ray Wilkins style crab pass to a full back, but he does have more discipline than Ivan so the full backs will be better equipped to bomb on and the shackles could be taken of both central midfielders

I presume he had spoken to his colleague Sam Allardyce before stating categorically that Nakata was leaving.

Campo every single time. Without him or similar, we are a prosaic team at best, and an incoherent, tedious side at worst. No surprise to see people obsessing over a Bolton player giving the ball away as usual. Ambitious and creative players give the ball away - get over it!

Signing Hamann is a sideways step. He is not outrageously better than anything we have at the moment. Good squad player, but not a world-beating signing in the JJ mould.

I think our last genuinely exciting signing was Hierro..........

I don't think people got all that excited about him until the second half of the season, when he played regularly. I'd say Diouf was the last exciting signing.

My scouse pal says that Hamman was instrumental in that 'legendary' Istanbul comeback. I can't really remember now, I've had a few sleeps.

If so then surely someone who can help drive the team from the brink of defeat has to be fairly positive, as we do seem to be a bit rubbish when we go behind in matches.

That said I'd rather have Campo personally. He is Bolton Wanderers (despite being Spanish).

I personally think Hamann would be a great signing, he steadies a team works well defensively provides the cover so others can go forward. This was exactly what he did in the Champions league final for Liverpool and the FA Cup. He would be a great signing and would provide some cover so that we don't burn Speed out three quarters of the way through the season as per last season.

Blurred you there? What do YOU think of Hamann?

i want campo to stay. It'd need 6 of us to wear H-A-M-M-A-N t-shirts and the wigs would leave a bit to be desired

Blurred hardly ever reads The Trotters forum so I doubt you'll get a answer unless you post something in the General Banter.
Which is quite handy cos you get to slag him off in here and he never finds out about it...

I've spoken to the Liverpool fans in the office and they say they don't really want him to leave although he's getting a bit long in the tooth now for their squad. On that basis they reckon he'd be a good signing for us, especially if he's free.

As he gets older, he's going to become less and less mobile, which will remove a huge part of his game...I don't think he'll be able to adapt to counter that. On that basis, along with the entertainment value, then it's Campo who should turn out for us next year as far as I'm concerned.

Hamann, as many predicted, is now unlikely to join according to a number of sources:

Personal preference or is Bowton's 'unfashionable' tag kicking us in the goolies once again? :conf:
