Working on the theory that the away kit will be blue (I'm not ITK, it's just a guess), then we would NEED to wear the away kit against the following...

Derby County
Leeds United

A third kit, in...lets say, red, would be worn against teams where the white and blue kits couldn't be worn. So those would be...

Blackburn Rovers
Brighton and Hove Albion
Huddersfield Town
Sheffield Wednesday
And possibly Peterborough United, depending on the design of their home kit.

In the world of logic, you'd just have a red away kit. But this is the world of money-making. I think it's actually in the rules that a team has to have three kits available to wear, alongside two goalkeepers kits, in case of clashes. Ordinarily, a team would just wear their away kit from the season before. However, when a team changes kit manufacturers in the close season, that is no longer possible, so a third kit, usually not worn all that often, is released.

Alternatively, it'll be a red (or yellow, or something) away kit, so the blue third kit would only be worn in the event of cup clashes vs, say, Arsenal, or Sheffield United.

In short, there'll be five different kits up for sale this season.

I love that you spent ages doing some homework into this, like you were trying to crack the Da Vinci Code; when it's not actually a secret that there IS a third kit next season.

I love that you think I spent ages doing homework into this. It was all off the top of my head. I was just trying to clarify to those who may be a little dense on the matter why we're bringing three playing kits out.

Red ? Red !! Why the desire to see us in red ?

'Tis the devils colour. ... & don't give me the "we wore read in 1975 or something. It was wrong then & would be wrong now. Nor that in 189whatever we had reddish shirts &/or polkadots.

Just wrong, wrong, wrong.

We had a red change kit for the best part of 40 years, from when change kits were first introduced, up until the late 80's. It's almost as much a part of the club colours as white shirts and navy shorts. That's why.

Red shirts may have been a reference to our origins as Christ Church FC. If so, we wore red before the likes of Man Utd.

1958 version:

Actually our home shirt for next season isn't the best. It has random bits of very dark navy/black in places where it shouldn't! Why mess with simplicity? Red shirt, white sleeves! Its not tricky Nike!

They phoned me this morning to say it isn't official yet and I won't be able to get a refund if it doesn't change.
