but what would the point be of having an away kit if it only gets used for about 12 games in the season

So we could use it 12 times. I think.

You lot clearly haven't factored in teams that play in red AND white. *Runs for cover* #moneymakingthirdkitbusinesslogic

Actually, I heard that they ARE bringing out a third kit...

Working on the theory that the away kit will be blue (I'm not ITK, it's just a guess), then we would NEED to wear the away kit against the following...

Derby County
Leeds United

A third kit, in...lets say, red, would be worn against teams where the white and blue kits couldn't be worn. So those would be...

Blackburn Rovers
Brighton and Hove Albion
Huddersfield Town
Sheffield Wednesday
And possibly Peterborough United, depending on the design of their home kit.

In the world of logic, you'd just have a red away kit. But this is the world of money-making. I think it's actually in the rules that a team has to have three kits available to wear, alongside two goalkeepers kits, in case of clashes. Ordinarily, a team would just wear their away kit from the season before. However, when a team changes kit manufacturers in the close season, that is no longer possible, so a third kit, usually not worn all that often, is released.

Alternatively, it'll be a red (or yellow, or something) away kit, so the blue third kit would only be worn in the event of cup clashes vs, say, Arsenal, or Sheffield United.

In short, there'll be five different kits up for sale this season.

Will any of them have elephants on?
I think the third kit should just be an elephant costume.

Ahhhhh, right. I thought Jimmy was suggesting that they do that think whereby you turn your trouser pockets inside out etc. :?

No because then you have to get into the whole having a zip sewn into your shorts scenario so you can whack your trunk out, and it's all bit messy. So i think Gary's suggestion is best.

Problem comes however if we're in a league full of teams with grey kits, so we'd just never use it. Unless we went for an Indian elehpant, which is more brown.

I wonder if Bruce is the first person in history to type 'elephant playing football' into a Google Images search...;)

We had a red change kit for the best part of 40 years (apart from one season when we played in green!) Presumably we played against a few teams who wore red and white stripes during that time. Third kits are just a money-making exercise.
