ye BBC is compiling some kind of archive of best/dramatic/important/significant football radio commentary..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17705832

they want to have a section for every club..

any candidates for us? someone should submit some ideas - but my memory of such things is crap!!

(not sure Dave Higson would count)

We probably need that bit of commentary I gave, that ran something along the lines of

"Oh shit, De Freitas is coming on, we're fooked now!"

Doubt this would make the grade as it wasn't recorded by BBC at the time but there's one that always stuck with me and its from the 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

Commentary goes as follows:
'Oh and Brown's lost it here to Ricketts, and Ricketts might win it, Ricketts has given Bolton the lead! From Behind! At Old Trafford!'

Twas a big deal back then seeing as United hadn't lost a game after being ahead at Old Trafford.

Like Mar says, most of our memories wont make the grade as they're more personal from the local commentary...but sat in my bedroom listening to the radio commentary of the Southampton cup game away back in 1992 was my most memorable, for drama, highs & lows.

Radio commentary always was & still is torture, for not being able to see whats going on.

League Cup Semi, 197-

Away at Goodison...I've never heard it due to being at the game, but always wanted to hear the commentary of our goal

Remember hiding under the bedclothes, secretly listening to it on my transistor. Got rumbled when the goal went in as I just couldn't help dancing round the bedroom going "Yes, yes, yes"! :D

2nd leg semi-final away @ Ipswich - GMR I think; - hundreds of miles away but felt the hurt & outrage just as much. Totally depressing night.

My mate, to this day, still refuses to watch that game.

Didn't Motson do the FA Cup replay at Highbury in the Rioch era?

"Walker for Bolton.... YES!"

Or maybe the first goal we scored in extra time when Coyle's shot hit the post and McAteer thumped it home? "and the follow up shot....it's there! McAteer!"

Great night! Great times!

Beeb must have had something to say on the wireless about Nat Lofthouse barging the united keeper into the net back in '58 !

I remember the 5 live audio though...when they used to not tell you the outcome of a goal when they went to a game...so."goal at old trafford" and you just assume that our 80 odd minute resistance is over..."Brown has missed it...ricketts...RICKETTS for BOLTON!!"

There just has to be a radio commentary somewhere on the Reading game, or the JJ destruction of Villa.

As a match commentator he was pretty naff, in his wanderings about Westhoughton market and who he'd seen in the Rumworth pub etc, but a major league above Jack Dearden and Gowling in personality.

Thought he was great to be honest. Used to talk about strategy and how we were lining up. It wasn't always a case of having to focus on match action but thinking about how the teams are coping against one another. Now we're left with that dull commentator currently on the official bwfc match day feed on the website.
