IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVVVAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN CCCCCCCCCCAAAAAAAAMMMMMMPPPPPOOOOOOOOOO. IIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN CCCCCCCCCCCCAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMPPPPPOOOOOOOOOOO.

While i doubt his English has improved so much to be able to write that, it's the sentiment behind it that counts. I have no reason to doubt it comes from the man himself, Balague is a reputable journo (Doesn't DSB work with him? Perhaps he can find out definitively).

But yeah, i'm all for someone composing a letter in reply. And i hope he does sign for City Hull.

On another note, Commies right and i fully expect some members to come on here and tell us how Campo is self serving and 'needs to grow a pair'.

What a legend. I cannot believe that Gartslime et al have not even wished him well for the future. :whack:

I suspected Guillem Balage may have transalated it from spanish?

Reckon he'll be at Rovers with Fat Sam ;)

Not once have I claimed to never be contradictory, though I do think there's a difference between writing a letter of apology for something that really wasn't your fault (and was obvious anyway) and writing a farewell (and explanation, which is more than the club have given) to fans who chanted your name for years.

I find us snubbing him and giving him a quick phone call saying "you're sacked" a little hard to swallow...his legs might have gone but that letter shows he really loves the club, almost sounding desperate : "As a youth coach, a spanish scout...anything...please don't get rid of me" but there you go. As he rightly said, the other players and most people will just think "that's football for you" and it's true, that's how it goes nowadays.

Considering we're "little old Bolton" with a big team spirit etc, we sure as hell are hard-nosed when it comes to seeing off our "legends" and "heroes"... There's certainly a huge lack of sentimentality being shown.

I agree in that sentimentality has lost its place in football, and i'd have loved to have given him a proper send off. But, in fairness to Gartside/Meggo, it does work both ways, had we offered Campo a new deal and he snubbed us to go somewhere else would he have been going out of his way to wish Gartside all the best? I doubt it. Footballers these days are viewed not as people but as assets, and it's as much their own doing as anyone elses, once your shelf life is up you're moved on pretty quickly.

That being said, i still love Campo. Guillem Balague looks as though he can be contacted here (askguillem@guillembalague.com) if anyone wants to ask about getting a message passed on.

I completely agree with you Tom. But I think the thing that sticks in the throat is that he was told via a "Two minute phone call". I don't believe that any servant of any organisation should be treated like that.

If Campo joined the Anti Christ at Ewok, it'd be even more gutted than when Le God went there.

That said, I know Ivan wouldn't do such a thing to his people!

He was absolutely atrocious when he first arrived, but we eventually got to see what a gifted player he is - absolute legend who will no doubt join the select ranks of Super John, Mixu et al in having his name chanted by the fans, even years after his departure.

Legend.

I know what you are saying Tom but you are comparing a completely hypothetical situation to one that has actually happened.

You don't sack someone by phone, it's utterly classless and just not the way things should be done. The club ought to be embarrassed by the way they've done that.

He wasn't sacked.

And in a world where all employment details are usually dealt with by ruthless agents you could argue that a two minute phonecall was far more personal than the normal way footballers go about these things.

Campo is a legend and as sickening as it is to say he's part of the past and we need to move forward.

Good work! Lacking an Allardyce reference though.

Not in a literal sense, no. But it's the same difference really. If he thought things were all rosy and he'd be in for contract talks sooner rather than later, a 2 minute phone call is a bit insulting.

Dear Guillem,

Thank you for publishing the letter from Ivan to the fans. Can I ask if you translated the letter from Spanish, or how it came to be published on your website? I am a member of a Bolton Wanderers forum www.the-wanderer.co.uk and all of our members are touched by the sentiments of the letter. I would be grateful if you could pass on our thanks and best wishes to Senor Campo and invite him to drop by on our forum anytime he is missing his fix of Wanderers appreciation. He is already a Wanderers legend and his name shall be sung for years to come!

Regards,

I was just thinking of that goal. A pity the film doesn't show Campo, Nolan and a few others coming to the corner to celebrate in front of the fans there.

If we want to write a letter of thanks to Ivan, might I suggest it take the form of a front page article? Then we send the link to Guillem Bagatelle and hopefully the great man will read it. Who knows?

So could any potential authors of such a letter please identify themselves... ta
