By the same token, and in parallel with the 'Best Ever...' thread I thought it would be worthwhile running a 'Your Worst Ever Bolton Player', debate / poll:

Who is the worst player to taint the famed Bolton shirt? It could be a fat has-been trading on past glories, or some low-level donkey the wider world has never heard of. For good reason.

Again, after a couple of nominees are presented I'll set up another poll.

Or the Japanese, Nishishawa?, bloke. Course Ricketts last season for those with vengeance on our minds. And the first Polish player at Bolton. 8)

Gary Henshaw was pretty poor, and if you take away his ability to score direct from a corner......so was Paul Comstive. Although he did once score two goals direct from corners in the same match, it was in the days of only 3-4 thousand for home games though, so I doubt many will remember it.

I never rated Jimmy Phillips either.

this thread is full of players that were at bolton for five minutes (eg, john okane, jardel) and aki nisizawa (sp?) wasnt even ours, he was a loanee, and other free transfer roulette chances... surely to qualify for the accolade of worst ever bolton player the player needs to have been there for a while and/or paid money for?

anyway, recent times... Steven McAnespie .. he was ours... we paid cash/cheque/hisbusfairback

i got vague memories of samhater (or somebody) compling one for a book/magazine and asking for tips, altho that was full of roulette chances and loanstars...

Jimmy Phillips? feck off. Thats ridiculous, alright he wasn't the most gifted footballer, but he played a decent part with us for a fair few seasons, whilst giving his all. He looked shit WHEN PLAYED OUT OF POSITION thank you colin todd. Top Bloke. I'd have someone like Steve McAnespie on there instead, he cost a bit of money for the Whites at the time and was fukin awful.

My nomination had to be John O'Kane...allardyces first signing if I remember rightly...and shite.

HHmmmm.....

Lots of voting and nominating going on - but no debate or discussion as to WHY your nomination should be classed as the 'Worst' Bolton signing ever.

Come on guys!! What stirs you to nominate this person? What have they done to be awarded such a wooden spoon? Why do you hate them so? Why are you so disgruntled with their exploits? Why should people march to the sound of your drum and no-one elses.

:conf:

cos John O'Kane couldn't even walk straight never mind kick a ball straight!

Farrelly can't be classed after that goal in Cardiff can he?

Steve McAnespie cost us the best part of a million quid, stayed for under 2 seasons, and proved why Scottish football is shite!!

Sorry, Jimmy Phillips wasn't as bad as many others not listed.

The worst 3 for me....

3. Steve McAnespie
2. Ibrahim Ba
1. Steve Howey

I really would love to say Nicky Summerbee, but he wasn't at the club long enough. I'd also dearly like to say Stelios, but that would just be silly. There's been far less talented players at the club than him. (None at the moment though).

So, I gotta say Andy Todd. This man was just a professional thug. He didn't even look like a footballer. Always a liability when in defence, we moved him into midfield. He loved playing there, just in front of the back four. It meant he could kick people.

He became a bit of a cult figure with some because of his spat with Stan Collymore, but it was just further proof that he was a ticking time-bomb. He finally exploded by attacking Phil Brown on a (ahem) team-bonding weekend.

Alan Curbishley took him off our hands for a million (which I still find amazing, cause I'm sure we'd have sacked him a week later anyway) and young Todd found himself at The Valley. He showed his gratitude to Charlton for rescuing his career by again getting into trouble with his team-mates.

He's now in his spiritual home. Playing with the likes of Savage and Dickov with The Dingles is where he belongs. He has earned rave reviews for his performances at the back for jackburn this season. But he would do, their whole game is about kicking the opposition players into the air.
