Thought it would be interesting to set up a debate / poll regarding your most favourite ever Bolton player.

The best player ever needn't be a Genuine Legend who produced his best form elsewhere, stopping only fleetingly at your place either on the road to fame or the slide to obscurity. Although, that said, perhaps you did have a genius who lit up the terrace in the twilight of his career; it's up to you whether he deserves the plaudits more than the unheralded left-back who slogged up and down the line for ten years.

Post your reply with your nominations and your reasons why they should be voted our best ever player. When there are a few I'll start adding them to a poll at the top.

Happy nominating!!!

John Mcginlay - Absolute legend and dedication to Bolton Wanderers. His goals started off a new era for Bolton under Bruce Rioch

Andy Walker, Steve Thompson, Eidur, Gudni. The list goes on and on. If I had to select the one with the most natural ability, I think I would stick with Andy Walker.

Off that list I'd give it Gudni. 8 years and only one season where i can remember him underperforming (and he lifted the div 1 trophy in that one). Mr Consistency.

Best player on pure ability you can't look further than Jay Jay, closely followed by Youri. No question.

Gotta be Gudni for me. I wish he was still here now, to be honest. I'll bet he could still do a job.

HHmmmm.....

Lots of voting and nominating going on - but no debate or discussion as to WHY your nomination should be classed as the 'Best' Bolton signing ever.

Come on guys!! What stirs you to nominate this person? What have they done to be awarded such an accolade? Why do they have your support? Why should people march to the sound of your drum and no-one elses.

:conf:

Erm, why is Fab on here? He was useless, so he scored a handball goal in the play off final.

Dear me

OK, my reasons for choosing Gudni.

When we signed him there was no blaze of glory, no big headlines in the papers. All we knew was that we'd signed a decent right back that had played a few games for Spurs. His debut in the League Cup final still didn't really offer us much sign of what was to come.

Then, for the next few seasons he did his job. Blindingly so. Again, without the headlines he so richly deserved. While greedy scumbags like Sasa, Arnar and Ricketts took the plaudits Gudni was there at the back, keeping the defence in order and popping up with a number of crucial goals.

Then his pace went. His legs packed in. He looked finished. He spent a season looking lost and it looked as though it was time for him to retire. So what did he do? He adapted his game. Being the intelligent man that he was, he knew that his pace had deserted him, so he worked on his positioning. His amazing sense of where the strikers were on the pitch made up for the yard of pace he had lost. Then, for the last couple of years of his career he looked a better player than ever.

We'll never see another like him at Bolton in our lifetimes. He was the perfect centre-back and captain. Much missed.

Andy Walker. Expected him to score every game - and more often than not he did. A class apart from everyone else we had at the time.

Got to be either Walker or Nat Lofthouse. Although I cannot believe the Holdsworth brothers, especially Deano, aren't up there.
