Can't seem to accept it's all based on being good enough and not just on wearing a United shirt. Never been able to stand him since he started telling the world how he was worth more wages than every player on the planet.

Not too sure about that, Tango. If he's been left out because Hodgson thinks that he's not a better option than Terry, Cahill, Lescott or even Jagielka, then that's fair enough.

But when there's a choice between him and yon Kelly lad, who's experienced two minutes of international football and played no more than a dozen matches for Liverpool the season just gone, it baffles to not select him for 'football reasons'.

Have you thought that Hodgson is finally doing what England fans have been clamouring and phasing out the failed old guard? Ferdinand is finished. Only fit half the time and has lost some pace.

Roy is doing what needs to be done, give younger players tournament experience.

Picking Ferdinand would just be repeating old mistakes. Build for the future. Who knows next Euros we might even have half a chance!

I've never rated Ferdinand like some. Solid enough meeting the ball, but passes square and backwards too much for me. Can't get shut of the ball quick enough when somebody presses him. His attitude always irks because he's a "do you know who I am?" type,and he's nobody in my eyes. Give me a young trier any time. Hodgson couldn't have foreseen Cahill's bad luck in the first place. That's the real bugbear now. Cahill himself is a comparative newcomer to international level football and he got his chance, so should others.

Not from England but will be supporting the English and the Dutch. I agree England need rid of the old guard but when injuries strike your top players I don't feel you can chose a player with few international caps and not even a regular premier league starter over a player who's had 80+ caps, world cup/euro's experience, regular in a top English side and won all major competitions with them. It's non logical, Ribery bombing down the wing against Kelly doesn't fill me full of confidence

Ferdinand isnt fit to play a concentrated set of games and maybe just maybe there is the question of his gobbiness unsettling the camp. Not sure how him and Terry get on these days.Hodgson seems to be valuing a settled happy camp in some of these choices and given that our only hope is organisation and spirit I think he's doing pretty well.
Mind you losing Cahill is a big loss, cant really play from the back. I can see the approach being pretty close to that employed by a certain fat sam some time ago.Be compact and competitive, play for set pieces and go long flooding with midfielders to support the big lad up top.Losing Cahill may well push us toward having Carroll as a starter now .

According to Jason Roberts it's because Rio is black, well, he's not got the sack to openly say it but he's hinting at that. Does he ever fecking stop?!
