Just wondering if you could spare a couple of minutes to help me out?

basically I want to know the positions you associate with each shirt number in football, in a typical 442 system.
eg 1 = GK, 2 = RB

this is exactly what is found. I took 6 as a centre half and 4 as a defensive midfielder as gospel, but I got picked up on it. this is the only discrepancy I have come across and when I get a few more responses I'll try and explain why.

4 is definitely a midfielder.
Think 4. Greaves, 5. Jones, 6. Allardyce.
Or, more recently, 4. McAteer, 5. Seagraves, 6. Stubbs.

Although 4 has also, in my memory, been a left-sided midfielder, too. Robbie Savage and Paul Comstive.

But 5 and 6 are your central defenders. In a 442. In a 236, 4 would be you right-half, 5 your centre-half and 6 your left-half.

236 involves playing a fly-goalie. This may or may not be legal, and hence may actually involve no goalie at all. This would definitely be legal, but possibly not wise.

Otherwise, maybe I do mean 235...
