Apparently Phil Brown is getting it tomorrow.

But for one day only on April 7th Sturrock will be managing them again for their trip to Wembley.

Bizarre. And then the statement on their official site....reads more like a post on here than an official communication and as for the grammar.......

Southend fans liked Sturrock from what I can tell.

And Sturrock has Parkinsons which makes the decision to not let him at least see out his contract to the end of the season draw even more criticism from some quarters.

Nowt stranger than football clubs.

I glanced at SSN earlier today; sound was quite low and thought I'd missheard. I then saw it later.........You couldn't make it up. The only reason I can see for this, is maybe that Paul Sturrock is unfortunately quite ill at present and the day to day running of the management could be too much. Whatever the reason, I wish him well, always thought him to be a good 'football man'.

Stress massively affects Parkinsons sufferers. It would be a tough ask to run a football club and retain a healthy quality of life. Better to take that stress away and let him have a day at Wembley.

But if that was the reason it might have been better to say that. Clearly Sturrock wanted to stay, till season's end at least.

Probably yes, assuming he didn't want to go....and if he didn't then well it's not really a reason that's valid.

So a loss in form and dropping down the table, is only a valid reason for the sack if your manager can pass a medical? That could start a trend!

It's not really that bizarre is it. He didn't get promotion last year, looked like he might this year but has blown the chances recently, and so gets sacked.
About the only bizarre element is his taking charge again for one day at Wembley, which all in all is, I think, a pretty decent offer.
So: not so much "Bizarre football story of the week" as "Normal football story of the week with a slight twist".

If they pay him what's due under the terms of his contract then it's just the same as any other managerial sacking.

I understand why you'd say that, but in fact not strictly correct.

ANY decision made on the basis of a discriminatory element is automatically unfair and he'd be eligible to compensation which would, as a rule of thumb, be 4x his normal £sum.

Now .... that doesn't mean his illness may not make him fail any test of capability & that is a permitted reason to terminate a contract fairly, provided all the right options are followed.

Surely he could only be 'discriminated' against if he'd declared his Parkinson's as a disability, Shirley?

Is Parkinson's Disease the one where you go around interviewing people?

It is. Other side effects include speaking in a ridiculous Yorkshire accent, silvery-white hair, an unhealthy interest in cricket and skin that looks even more scrotumy than Arsène Wenger's.

No, that's Paxman's disease.

Sacking him isn't the bizarre bit, it's the way it's been done and the statement the club put out from the Chairman.

Generally when the fans of the club think sacking the manager is an outrage, it signals an odd decision.

That still may be normal but the whole "manage them at Wembley" is still really bizarre IMO. What's Phil Brown going to do that day? I just think it's very very odd.

Maybe they could get Browny on at half time for an in-public finger-wagging?!

Don't disagree on that. I have a relative with Parkinson's and there is plenty that she wants to still do, even tries to do, that she just can't. Maybe Sturrock hasn't accepted his new limitations yet and the old cruel to be kind thing is in play. It's a shame. Always seemed a decent bloke and not the way he'd want his career to end.

Sky yellow thingy's saying that Sturrock's declined the offer to lead Southend out at Wembley.
