Where will Newcastle finish next season?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Where will Newcastle finish next season?

Post by Nozza » Tue May 15, 2007 12:20 pm

This place seems like a sensible place to ask.

You've had 7 and a bit seasons with Big Sam, more often than not, with decent to average players (sorry...) but as we know he has moved onto pastures new with Newcastle. As I have made very clear on here a few times, I think the following: A. Big Sam is one of the best managers around and B. Newcastle have a better squad than their league placing suggests. I therefore think that BSA will take Newcastle (sadly) to at least a top 7 place next season, have a semi-decent cup run (1/4 finals onwards) and generally have an all round better season than usual.

Given your knowledge of BSA, and how he plays, with Newcastles squad, where do you expect them to finish?

UEFA Cup spot with a decent cup run, possibly even a final

7th at the highest. In my view Villa and Spurs (as well as the top four) are going to be a gulf in class next season from the rest, regardless what BSA does.

Mid table or above. Sam'll hit on their weak-spot, defence, and sort it out. The rest will improve from there. Just my opinion.

Top eight - his natural home - would be the aim. He'll have to act quick to shore up that defence though.

I also think he will make significant improvements in his first year. 5th may be a little ambitious. I am going for 7th pushing us down the league.

Can't see them getting into the top 7 so I'll go for anywhere between 8th and 11th inclusively.

But in fact I don't actually care, so long as they are below Bolton.

Sam's old news lets forget about him now.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I think that there will be a positive atmosphere round St James' Park that hasn't been there for a long time. I think they'll be top 6.

In the dressing room or in the stands, Pencilbiter? I can see that there'll be a fair old whack of nervous apprehension in the latter.
